Thanks to the 270 brave swimmers who plunged into icy waters this December and January. We’ve been delighted by the array of amazing fancy dress outfits and speedy relay racers as well as the amount of money you have all raised for Crisis – almost £25,000!

SATURDAY 23 JANUARY 2016 – 11am

Gather your relay team or go solo at Tooting Bec, the country’s largest fresh water lido, and race to help end homelessness.

A team can be two to four people. Each team will have to complete 4 widths of the pool. Each width is 30.18 m. You can choose to swim the whole distance yourself if you’re brave enough! The relay will be timed and the fastest group will win an exciting prize and lots of praise.

If you can’t quite face the idea of a width or four, there’s the option to just jump in and out!

I can’t make any of the Midwinter Swim dates but I’d like to do a swimming challenge, what can I do?

You can organise your own swim anywhere anytime, contact us at and we can advise you, send you a fundraising pack and a Crisis swimming hat. Download a poster here/p>

How do I register?

You can register by clicking Register on one of the events above

Can I register for more than one person?

Yes, you can buy up to 5 places at each event. You will need to provide us with the names and email addresses of those taking part. There will be a relay at Tooting Bec Lido, a relay team consists of four people. We will need the names of the participants and your team name at the point of registering. If you need to change members of your team around, that is fine, just email us at before the event

How do I sign in on the day?

There will be a registration desk at the pool and your name will be on a list. We will tick your name off and you can pick up your swimming cap.

How much money do I need to raise to take part?

We ask each swimmer to raise as much as they can. Every penny counts!

Can I take part in more than one event?

You can enter all three events, but we do ask that you register separately. There is no discount for joint registration.

Are there changing rooms?

Swimmers can change in the changing rooms at all three pools. There are also toilets, hot showers and lockers for baggage.

Will refreshments be provided?

Each swimmer will get a hot drink. There are cafes providing food and drinks on site at Kings Cross Ponds and Brockwell Lido. There are plenty of cafes close to the Tooting Lido.

Is there a capacity?

Only 100 people can swim at Kings Cross so places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis

Will the swim still take place in bad weather?

If weather conditions are such that it is deemed unsafe to hold the event we reserve the right to cancel. If this happens we will endeavour to let you know as far in advance as possible.

Advice for cold water swimming

Swimmers should:

1. First time cold water swimmers are advised to notify the lifeguard
2.Wear their Crisis swimming hat to help retain heat
3.Bring plenty of warm clothes for after the swim, including a hat
4.Acclimatise to the cold
5.Swim gently at first, allowing time to overcome the shock/shallow breathing reaction to the cold
6.Seek help immediately if they feel very cold, woozy, nauseous, disorientated, dizzy or faint
7.Have a warm shower and wrap up after the swim and avoid standing around
8.Consult their GP before getting into the water if they suffer from heart disease, asthma, lung conditions or any other medical conditions that might be affected by exposure to cold water, or if they are pregnant
9.There will be 5 fully trained lifeguards by the pool for the whole event and St John’s Ambulance
